Sunderland of the Three Sisters

House Sunderland of the Three Sisters rules the Three Sisters, islands located in the Bite. The Sunderlands are sworn to House Arryn of the Eyrie.   House Sunderland blazons their arms with three women's heads, white with black hair, on barry wavy blue and green. Their words are "Heed the sirens call."

Culture

The Sisters sell crab, fish, and goat cheese to White Harbor, and in return the city sells them wood, wool, and hides.   Sister's stew is a white seafood stew that is served all over the Three Sisters, in every inn and tavern.   Beacons burn along the shores of the Three Sisters to warn passing ships of danger. The Night Lamp of Sisterton is a prominent beacon operated by House Borrell. Some disreputable Sistermen use false lights to lure ships into wrecks to take their cargo.   Sailors from the Sisters have been known to work the rich fishing grounds of the westernmost reaches of the Shivering Sea, an area controlled by Braavos.

Traits

The Sistermen are related in some manner to First Men and share a number of their traits such as dark hair and gray, blue, or black eyes. However some sistermen have webbed fingers and toes which is known as 'the mark.'

History

Origins

During the Conquest of the Seven Kingdoms by Aegon the Conqueror, the Three Sisters rebelled against Rickard Arryn, King of Mountain and Vale, and named as their queen Marla Sunderland. Queen Visenya Targaryen flew on Vhagar to end the Sistermen's Rebellion, however. The Sistermen deposed Marla, and her brother, Lord Steffon Sunderland, submitted to King Aegon I.

Recent Events

House Sunderland supported Paul Arryn's attempt to unseat his brother in the hopes that the uncertainty in the Vale would give them an opportunity to separate themselves from the Kingdom of the Vale, however their contribution to the cause was token at best, and with Paul Arryn's failure they settled again biding their time till the next chance to buck their overlords.

Seat and Holdings

The Three Sisters are a group of three islands; Sweetsister, Longsister, and Littlesister, found in the Bite, located south of White Harbor and north of the Mountains of the Moon. The islands owe loose allegiance to House Arryn of the Vale.   The islands are considered dens of avarice and sin by septons. People from the Three Sisters are known as Sistermen. Some have webbing between their hands and feet, which they call the mark.   House Sunderland rules the three sisters from the eastern end of the Longsister. Sunderland Castle is more a thick light house than a proper castle or tower, made of weathered gray stone painted with bands of green and blue at the base it is distinct among other warning lights and is perhaps the highest burning light on the islands.
